FC Barcelona Coach Xavi Receives New Signing In Training

Prior to his team's Sunday match against Villarreal, FC Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez has summoned up a new signing to first team training.

The Catalans confirmed their acquisition of former SCSC 0.0% Freiburg midfielder Noah Darvich just over a month ago.

Barca paid just €2.5 million ($2.75 million) for the young player, who is regarded as one of German football's most promising talents for being a "technically gifted" goalscorer and "versatile" player who can play both as an interior and on the wing. Barca defeated competition from the likes of Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bayern Munich.

In his first game for the reserve team, Darvich has already made an impression after being promptly allocated to Barca Athletic.

He played for them for the first time last week, contributing an assist in a 45-minute cameo during a 3-0 victory over Lleida Esportiu.

Sometimes criticized for not giving youth a chance, Xavi is at least known for allowing certain budding stars to train with his first team squad.

Ahead of Sunday's away trip to Villarreal, he called up Alvaro Cortes, Marc Casado and goalkeeper Ander Astralaga to a session at the Joan Gamper CT alongside Darvich.

Mundo Deportivo wrote that Barca consider Darvich to be a "high-level bet for the future", and it now remains to be seen if he has impressed Xavi enough to continue working with the first team after the manager got a closer look at him on Thursday morning.
