Rescue helicopter crashes in Pompano Beach

FLORIDA'S POMPANO BEACH (WSVN) - Following the crash of a Broward Sheriff's Fire Rescue (BSFR) helicopter, police responded to an aircraft emergency. According to officials, at least two passengers were hospitalized.

Video footage from the event, which happened around 8:45 in the morning near 1201 NW 6th Ave, shows a trail of smoke coming off the helicopter that quickly descended.

As firefighters battled to contain the incident, multiple fire rescue trucks could be seen in live camera footage from 7SkyForce. It is thought that the chopper caught fire when it collided with the home.

The building's scorched roof, which appeared to be smoldering from the crash's aftermath, was still visible in live television footage. The triplex's residents were evacuated as firefighters put out the fire.

Two occupants from the building were reportedly treated for injuries by Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel.

Three persons were aboard the chopper, and two of them have been taken to Broward Health, according to BSO officials. According to officials, none of the patients who were sent to the hospital had major injuries.

According to representatives of Broward County Schools, the helicopter landed a short distance from a school without striking any of the buildings.

In order to clear the scene, police and fire rescue crews have closed North Dixie Highway between Northeast Fifth Street and Northeast 10th Street.
