Total of eight railcars derail heading to Fort Carson

– Eight Union Pacific railcars derailed on Monday, Oct. 9, en route to Fort Carson. – The incident was confirmed by Union Pacific and a Mountain Post spokesperson.

The train was transporting equipment for the 4th Infantry Division from Fort Irwin, California to Fort Carson. 

– The derailment occurred near South Circle Drive and East Las Vegas Street. – Eight railcars, 13 vehicles, and two trailers were impacted.

– Fortunately, there were no injuries among soldiers or civilians. – No hazardous materials were released as a result of the derailment.

The extent of damage and the functionality of the transported vehicles are yet to be estimated.

A comprehensive evaluation will be conducted after the equipment is transported to Fort Carson.

Both the BNSF Railway and Union Pacific are actively investigating the incident to determine its cause.
